A Higher Standard of Ballet Education

The Ballet Company is a leading ballet school in Calgary, Alberta, dedicated to developing strong, disciplined, and technically proficient dancers. Our training environment reflects the expectations of the professional dance world—where commitment, self-discipline, and attention to detail are essential.

We offer intensive ballet training in Calgary for dancers ages 4 and up who are serious about their development and ready to grow within a structured, high-performance training program. Our focus extends beyond technique and artistry—we are committed to providing a well-rounded dance education that supports both personal growth and long-term success.

Through structured classes and opportunities for workshops, performances, competitions, and examinations, our dancers build confidence, resilience, and professionalism at every stage of their training. Discipline, consistency, and excellence are the pillars of our program.

Students are placed into classes based on age, ability, experience, and level of commitment- ensuring a training environment that supports both challenge and progression. We maintain small class sizes so each dancer receives the individualized attention and detailed instruction needed to reach their full potential.

Our Training Approach

At The Ballet Company, our ballet classes are rooted in the Cecchetti Method, with supplemental training influenced by RAD (Royal Academy of Dance) and Vaganova methodology in open classes. This approach provides dancers with a strong technical foundation while exposing them to a breadth of classical training styles.

While classical ballet training is at the core of our program, we strongly encourage dancers to train in additional styles to support overall development. We offer classes in contemporary, lyrical, and jazz, helping dancers build coordination, versatility, and artistic expression as part of a comprehensive dance education.

Dance Conditioning & Strength Training

Dance conditioning is an essential component of our training program. Many of our instructors are certified in Progressive Ballet Technique (PBT), Conditioning with Imagery (CI Training), and Pilates, ensuring dancers develop the strength, alignment, and body awareness required for high-level performance.

Proper conditioning not only enhances performance but also plays a critical role in injury prevention. All Pre-Competitive and Competitive dancers participate in mandatory conditioning training, while optional conditioning classes are available for recreational students.

Our Commitment

At The Ballet Company, we are committed to helping every dancer reach their full potential in a professional, structured, and supportive environment. Whether pursuing serious training or building a strong foundation, our goal is to guide each student toward excellence in ballet and beyond.

The Cecchetti Method

The Cecchetti Ballet Method was founded by Enrico Cecchetti in the early 1900s. Cecchetti created his syllabus based on the individuality of each dancer. He incorporated principles based on scientific and anatomical concepts that were formulated by Carlos Blasis to enhance his system of teaching. This system of training was unique and advanced compared to any other forms of ballet training in his day. Using it, he would develop some of the strongest dancers of the era. The Cecchetti Syllabus has proven to be timeless. To this day, it is still one of the most widely used syllabi used to train technically strong and artistic dancers.

Many of the exercises that are still included in the current Cecchetti  Intermediate, Advanced I, Advanced II and Diploma syllabi were choreographed by Cecchetti with clear training goals to prepare his dancers for professional dancing careers. To this day dancers training in the Cecchetti method gain superior strength, coordination, musicality, artistry and muscle memory that prepare them to be successfully trained and educated dancers. In more recent years, exercises were created by a counsel of Cecchetti teachers and examiners with the intention of preparing dancers for the later exam work (Intermediate, Advanced 1, Advanced 2 and Cecchetti Diploma). With the creation of these exercises, dancers were able to benefit from beginning their Cecchetti training at an earlier age. Primary and Grade 1-6 Examinations have become a key training tool within the syllabus. Through working in this method of ballet, students are effectively trained using Cecchetti's ideals of individuality, artistry, and anatomy.

Because of the superiority of the Cecchetti method of ballet training, all of the ballet classes at The Ballet Company have a strong base in this syllabus. Our dancers train in the Cecchetti work in preparation for examinations each year. In our open ballet classes and choreography work, the Cecchetti technique is strongly integrated. To ensure our dancers are receiving a full ballet education, however, RAD (Royal Academy of Dance) and Vaganova elements are also incorporated.
