About Us
The Ballet Company offers intensive dance training for dancers aged four years and up. At The Ballet Company, our focus is to not only to train excellence in technique and artistry, but also to give our students the benefit of a full dance education. Through structured classes and the opportunity for workshops, performances, competitions and examinations, the TBC dancers become strong and confident professionals at all ages. Self discipline, consistency and excellence are our pillars. Students are placed in programs and classes according to age, ability, commitment level and experience. We keep our class sizes small to ensure every dancer receives the attention and detail in training that they require to reach their personal best.
At The Ballet Company, our ballet classes are structured using the Cecchetti Method of ballet with supplemental experience in RAD and Vaganova in Open Classes. Although ballet training is our main focus, we strongly recommend our dancers train in other dance forms to build additional coordinations, abilities and strengths. TBC offers classes in contemporary, lyrical and jazz to be sure our dancers are receiving a well rounded dance education.
Dance Conditioning is a key training element at The Ballet Company. Many of our instructors are certified in Progressive Ballet Technique (PBT), Conditioning with Imagery (CI Training) and Pilates. Bodies cannot perform to their full potential without being properly trained. Properly conditioned bodies are also less likely to get injured. All of our Pre-Competitive and Competitive dancers have conditioning requirements as part of their mandatory training. Conditioning classes are offered as optional add-ons for our recreational program.
We are excited to help you or your dancer reach their full dance potential!
The Cecchetti Method
The Cecchetti Ballet Method was founded by Enrico Cecchetti in the early 1900s. Cecchetti created his syllabus based on the individuality of each dancer. He incorporated principles based on scientific concepts that were formed by Carlos Blasis to enhance his system of teaching. This system of training was unique and advanced compared to any other forms of ballet training in his day. Using it, he would develop some of the strongest dancers of the era. The Cecchetti Syllabus has proven to be timeless. To this day, it is still one of the most widely used syllabi used to train technically strong and artistic dancers.
Many of the exercises that are still included in the current Cecchetti Intermediate, Advanced I, Advanced II and Diploma syllabi were choreographed by Cecchetti with clear training goals to prepare his dancers for professional dancing careers. To this day dancers training in the Cecchetti method gain superior strength, coordination, musicality, artistry and muscle memory that prepare them to be successfully trained and educated dancers. In more recent years, exercises were created by a counsel of Cecchetti teachers and examiners with the intention of preparing dancers for the later exam work (Intermediate, Advanced 1, Advanced 2 and Cecchetti Diploma). With the creation of these exercises, dancers were able to benefit from beginning their Cecchetti training at an earlier age. Primary and Grade 1-6 Examinations have become a key training tool within the syllabus. Through working in this method of ballet, students are effectively trained using Cecchetti's ideals of individuality, artistry, and the scientific methods of training the body.
Because of the superiority of the Cecchetti method of ballet training, all of the ballet classes at The Ballet Company have a strong base in this syllabus. Our dancers train in the Cecchetti work in preparation for examinations each year. In our open ballet classes and choreography work, the Cecchetti technique is strongly integrated. To ensure our dancers are receiving a full ballet education, however, RAD (Royal Academy of Dance) and Vaganova elements are also incorporated.
